What is Mind charity and how do we support their work?
In today's complex and dynamic clothing market, we’d like to think that we stand out from the crowd for a few good reasons.
One of the reasons is that we have made positive change a core focus of our brand. Through our socially conscious clothing, we’ve made commitments to mental wellbeing as well as ethics and sustainability.
Our socially conscious clothing brand
When our founder Rupert started I AM ME, it marked the beginning of a new movement. Rupert wanted to create a brand, not only to celebrate his own journey to self-acceptance and self-celebration but because he knew this struck a chord with many others:
“I AM ME is for anyone who has ever hidden away, felt isolated or believed that they didn't belong. It's time to unite and stand up together, declaring: "I AM ME!"
“Our clothing isn't just attire; it's a statement of unity and positivity. Join us on this empowering journey – let's embrace our individuality and transform it into strength, one I AM ME moment at a time!”
From day one, I AM ME has been a committed ethical clothing brand. But what is conscious clothing and what are we doing for the greater good?
What is conscious clothing?
‘Socially conscious clothing’ refers to garments that are designed, produced and consumed with a focus on minimising any negative impact on the environment, workers and consumers.
Conscious clothing prioritises ethical and sustainable practices throughout the lifecycle of the piece. We admire and aspire to the level of some of the more established socially conscious clothing brands, such as People Tree and Patagonia.
As well as being sustainable and eco-friendly, we also give financial support to causes that are important to us and many others. One such cause is Mind charity.
What is Mind charity?
Mind is a mental health charity based in the UK. Mind provides support and resources for people who are dealing with mental health issues and tackling difficult feelings.
The charity offers a range of services, including counselling, advocacy and campaigns to enhance our understanding of, and reduce stigma surrounding, mental health.
What does Mind, the charity, do?
Mind seeks to make mental health a priority every day. The charity does this by standing up to injustices – in healthcare, in work and in law – which make life harder for those of us with mental health issues.
Mind offers vital help whenever people might need it - whether through information, legal advice or local services.
Another outcome of Mind’s invaluable work is that they connect and unite people. Mind brings together a network of individuals and communities who care about mental health in order to make a difference. This is something that really resonates with our company’s ethos.
The ethical foundation of I AM ME
In addition to upholding sustainable and ethical production practices and donating a proportion of sales to Mind, we seek to foster a supportive community. Advocating for mental health is just as important to our brand as fair labour, sustainable materials and eco-friendly manufacturing processes.
We encourage people to embrace what makes them unique without fear or embarrassment. We aim to unite people by encouraging kindness to themselves and others, and sharing pride in their diversity and humanity.
We believe that positivity breeds positivity. More people wearing our clothing and being proud to wear their I AM ME logo will help to create an inclusive community of like-minded people. We hope to unite people who want to embrace who they are and give them the confidence to celebrate their individuality and quirks.
Buy consciously and support Mind charity
I AM ME is dedicated to providing high-quality sustainable clothing while also supporting mental health. By opting to support Mind charity, we make an important contribution to mental health awareness and the promotion of mental wellbeing.
With every purchase from our collections, we give a donation to Mind (as well as Made by Dyslexia) - charities that are close to our founder’s heart - in order to support others.
We strongly believe in ethical and socially conscious clothing and joining together to promote a more sustainable and compassionate industry.
If you’re keen to invest in quality clothing with an ethical stance, please take a look at our men’s and women’s clothing collections.
