BACK TO BLOG
Crimbo Limbo? What is it. Crimbo Limbo is the days between Christmas Day and New Years Eve. The days where you don’t know your name. Breakfast consists of the last chocolates that no one really wants but you will settle for them anyway and your pyjamas are now glued on to your body.
Can you relate?
Crimbo limbo is a bittersweet feeling, you have nothing to do but eat and watch telly on REPEAT. Although relaxing, it can be a love hate relationship. Feeling guilty is often a side effect at this time of year.
But here at I Am Me we get it and we have got your back.
Before we can delve into the nitty gritty about how to avoid or embrace the crimbo limbo. Lets talk about why we get this weird feeling during this time.
Often Christmas is hugely built-up throughout the year and once it’s over you get this sort of ‘Oh.’ feeling. You are not alone. Most of the time we also often feel low about possibly ‘slightly’ overindulging.
Christmas can also be a sensitive time for some, so the days in between can sometimes feel lonely and daunting as the New year approaches.
So what can we do?
Try to be gentle with yourself, Christmas is a time for winding down and hibernating. Spending time with loved ones whether that is family or friends. Finding gratitude in the little things such as being able to have leftovers after Christmas or even that toasty feeling when you are cozied up on the sofa.
It is important to remember that life doesn’t have to be GO, GO, GO all the time. This is time for you to have peace and stay grounded. Reflecting on the past year can be positive but it can also be overwhelming so try not to linger on thoughts of what you would have done better.
Stretches can be really helpful to relieve some of that uncomfortable sensation after you have overindulged. Here are some quick and easy stretches for you to try at home:
Cat/ Cow
Cat/Cow is great for digestion as it gently improves circulation and massages your organs.
Begin on your hands and knees, breathe in as you curl your back upwards to the sky. Gently release and arch your spine as you exhale. Repeat this for 4-5 times.
Supine Twist
Supine Twist lengthens your spine whilst having a detoxifying effect for your organs.
Begin on your back, lift up your right leg and gently fold over your straight left leg. Hold this position breathing deeply into your core and gently release back to the centre. Repeat
Legs Up The Wall
Lie flat on the floor and lift your legs up to the wall (don’t worry about how straight you can get them as everyone’s flexibility differs)
Hold this position for up to 5 minutes and breathe into your core. This helps with bloating.

As well as helping with digestion and physical wellbeing, stretching can help to ground yourself which is incredibly important, especially after such a busy pressurised time of year.
Going on a short walk following meals is also great for digestion. Ensuring you are doing some kind of movement, within the first 20 minutes of eating, aids in blood sugar level control and prevents unwanted glucose spikes. Glucose spikes throughout the day are what can affect our mood and energy, especially after eating plenty of festive food and drink.
Often trying to arrange activities in the near future is a great way of snapping out of the slump, as having something to look forward to is often essential.
Staying uplifted can feel really hard and daunting but you have got this. I am me is a community and we know how challenging the winter months can be. Little 1% improvements each day can set you on the right path for the New Year.
