Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week
I AM ME are big advocates for mental health. We’re committed to opening up the mental health conversation to better support one another and dispel stigma - both in our community and beyond.
We make it our business to get behind campaigns that spread a positive message about emotional wellbeing, such as Mental Health Awareness Week.
When Is Mental Health Awareness Week?
Mental Health Awareness Week falls each May. It’s a great opportunity to share ways to improve our mental wellbeing and understand our challenges so that we can help ourselves and each other.
This year, Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from 13th to 19th May 2024.
The charity, Mental Health Foundation, started the awareness week back in 2001 and they focus on a different theme each year.
Millions of people across the UK participate in Mental Health Awareness Week every year. This includes those in schools and further education as well as the private, public and charity sectors. The campaign is actively supported by a diverse range of people, from families and individuals to governments and well-known personalities.
What Is The Theme For Mental Health Awareness Week 2024?
The focus in 2024 is Movement: moving more for our mental health.
We feel like this is a great theme. It’s no coincidence that comfy activewear is a large part of our offering and we really resonate with the message.
We know from our own experience that exercise can help:
- Reduce stress hormones
- Improve self-esteem
- Release endorphins to boost mood
- Help improve sleep
Being active is a helpful way to regulate our mental wellbeing. For this reason, the Mental Health Foundation wants to help people find time for regular activity and movement in their lives.
What To Do For Mental Health Awareness Week
Whether you join a group activity - like football or martial arts practice - or you choose something a little less organised - such as going for a run - moving your body can make a huge difference to how you feel.
With all that being said, we know that it can be a little daunting to start a new activity, so why not start by:
- Dancing around the kitchen to your favourite tunes
- Popping onto YouTube or joining an online yoga or Pilates class
- Grabbing a friend (or a dog!) and going for a walk
- Getting your wellies on and making your garden ready for summer
- Reliving the fun of childhood with a skipping rope or hula hoop
Our Support For Mind: Promoting Positive Change
We are conscious of the importance of raising awareness and reducing the stigma that surrounds mental health and wellbeing.
Our Founder, Rupert decided to launch I AM ME with a clear vision for making positive change. Rupert had overcome his own mental health challenges (click to read more about Rupert).
We like to do our bit for mental wellness. Not only does our clothing promote comfort, confidence and connection but we also raise funds for the mental health initiatives of Mind mental health charity.
Spreading Awareness Beyond Clothing
As a clothing company, we believe in offering consumers a conscious and ethical option. We stand for so much more than high-turnover fast fashion and driving excessive consumption.
Our brand spreads awareness and positivity beyond the confines of our industry. With mental health advocacy front and centre, I AM ME seeks to engage with the community to promote good mental wellbeing.
Our clothing features empowering slogans that encourage conversations about mental health. Our social media communities support and nurture emotional wellbeing being a part of everyday discussion.
If you’d like to join the movement and support our shared mission of promoting good mental health, please think about:
