Our top tips on what to wear when exercising outside in winter

1. Layer up

When exercising outside it’s recommended to wear at least two layers as a minimum to make sure you remain warm and dry throughout. Start to create your outfit with a base layer which is generally a long sleeve, tight fitting top made from sweat-wicking material.

Next is the mid layer, to add an extra injection of warmth. Your mid layer is usually a looser fit compared to the base layer which can be a sweatshirt or hoody.

Your winter workout wardrobe doesn’t need to be limited to I Am Me pieces. If there’s rain forecast make sure to add a waterproof jacket to

the ensemble. An overcoat can be incorporated into the look too if you’re planning on running errands or meeting friends before working out.

2. Style vs Functionality

When thinking of what to wear for outside exercise there’s so much more to consider than looking good and staying warm. Moisture-wicking properties are a really important feature to look for. When you exercise and inevitably sweat the moisture can get trapped against your skin and not wearing the right items can cause your temperature to lower, this needs to be avoided in winter.

Polyester and nylon are known for their moisture-wicking properties, which is why we used them to create our pieces. It’s really important to us that our clothes are functional as well feeling good to wear.

3. Don’t forget accessories

In cold temperatures your body focuses on taking care of and heating your vital organs, therefore your head and hands are quicker to lose heat. It’s important to have the right accessories ready to go when considering exercising outside. Our caps are a perfect addition to your winter wardrobe, they’ll keep the heat in and also help to keep winter sun out of your eyes.

4. Post workout warmth

Let’s face it, after a workout no one wants to stay in their sweaty gym wear. It’s especially important after exercising outside to warm up as soon as you can with a shower and a change of clothes. Our cosy joggers and hoodies from the athleisure range, are perfect for this. Snuggle up on the sofa and revel in the feeling of accomplishment you have from completing your workout.

5. Think about before and after as well as during

If only it was as simple as getting up and heading out of the door when it comes to working out. You also need to consider how you’re getting to where you’re working out and the right clothes to match.
